Status Update/Community Announcement: Transformation of Edmonds Wastewater Treatment Plant

  August 7, 2023

We want to share an important update regarding the transformation of the City of Edmonds Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). As previously announced, Ecoremedy® is implementing an innovative process that will turn the plant into a green biofuels producer, significantly reducing our carbon footprint and benefiting our community and the environment. Our Ecoremedy equipment is being installed by Ameresco, the official project provider. Ameresco is a leading cleantech integrator and renewable energy asset developer.

COMMISSIONING SCHEDULE

The commissioning of the new system is set to begin on August 14th. Initially, it will run during regular operating hours of the Edmonds Wastewater Treatment Plant.

On August 16th, we will transition to a 24-hour operation, five days a week, through August 28th.

During this commissioning process, our team will periodically shut down and restart the new system to conduct essential testing and calibration. We assure you that there will be no anticipated impact on the community.

TEMPORARY SMOKE/STEAM DURING STARTUP

During the startup process, residents may observe brief amounts of smoke or steam emanating from the plant. We want to reassure you that this is all part of the standard commissioning procedure and should not be a cause for concern. There is no need to call the fire department. 😄

A GREENER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

The Ecoremedy system, endorsed by the EPA as a renewable energy producer, will pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future for Edmonds. With its capability to remove emerging contaminants and generate valuable biochar product, FlexChar, we are taking significant steps towards a cleaner environment and creating new opportunities for revenue generation.

If you would like to learn more about the project, you can check out the excellent My Edmonds News article and coverage from our initial launch during Earth Day 2022.

As we embark on this transformative journey, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire Edmonds community for your ongoing support. Together, we can make a positive impact on our environment and lead the way in sustainable wastewater treatment solutions.

If you have any questions or concerns during the commissioning process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Your engagement and feedback are essential as we strive for continuous improvement.

Thank you for being part of this exciting chapter in Edmonds environmental journey!

Sincerely,

David Mooney
