Pittsburgh, September 17, 2025 — Ecoremedy, LLC®, which designs complete biosolid drying and gasification facilities for wastewater treatment and other challenging organic wastes, today announced the issuance of patent No. EP39945077 by the European Patent Office for the company’s Biosolid Treatment Process and System.
The innovative process and equipment address one of the world’s most challenging residuals conversion and disposal issues and provides an alternative to increasingly problematic municipal biosolids management practices, including land application, incineration, composting and landfilling.
“We are excited to announce a significant milestone in the development of our innovative modular and scalable solution that harnesses thermal energy to effectively remove moisture from biosolids. Our process not only breaks down harmful chemicals but also produces a biochar with desirable properties and a minimal environmental footprint,” stated the Ecoremedy Leadership Team. “This achievement reinforces Ecoremedy’s competitive edge and validates our design of the world’s most advanced platform for simultaneous gasification, pyrolysis, and the recovery of nutrients and energy from municipal biosolids and industrial residuals.” Dion D. Banks, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations at Ecoremedy, added, “This patent not only highlights our commitment to sustainability but also positions us as leaders in transforming waste management into a resource recovery process.”
Ecoremedy’s process – ruled as non-incineration by the EPA in 2021 – avoids the production of highly toxic and carcinogenic dioxins and furans commonly produced by incineration.
The company’s Fluid Lift Gasification™ system is installed at the Edmonds, Washington wastewater treatment plant. At the Derry Township Municipal Authority wastewater treatment plant in Hershey, PA Ecoremedy installation of the equipment was completed in August 2025. Commissioning is scheduled for Q2 2025.
